Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is regarded as a landmark in the use of computer-generated imagery, and received positive reviews from critics, who praised the effects, though reactions to other elements of the picture, such as character development, were mixed. During its release, the film grossed more than $914 million worldwide, becoming the most successful film released up to that time (surpassing E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and surpassed 4 years later by Titanic), and it is currently the 15th highest grossing feature film (taking inflation into account, it is the 18th-highest-grossing film in North America). It is the most financially successful film for NBC Universal and Steven Spielberg

Plot Wealthy billionaire and eccentric dinosaur enthusiast John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), CEO of InGen has recently created Jurassic Park; a futuristic theme park populated with dinosaurs cloned from their DNA and taken from fossilized mosquitoes preserved in amber. The park is situated on Isla Nublar, an island 87 miles north-west of Costa Rica; for security purposes, the island is surrounded by fifty miles of electric fence, and the dinosaurs have had their chromosomes altered to make them all female to prevent breeding. As an additional precaution the animals cannot produce lysine, the building block for protein in the body, thus requiring regular dietary supplements (most likely in the form of a pill concealed in their supplied food regimen).

After an incident in the park, where a worker is fatally attacked by a Velociraptor, Hammond's investors and their lawyer Donald Gennaro (Martin Ferrero) tell him to have two experts sign off on the island for the benefit of health and safety. To that end, Hammond invites paleontologists Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) along with Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), a mathematician, and Hammond's two grandchildren—Tim Murphy (Joseph Mazzello) and Lex (Ariana Richards)—to Jurassic Park, in order to convince Gennaro and the investors the park is safe. The group is sent into the park as part of a safari experience to observe most of the animals. Hammond, meanwhile, observes his guests along with Head Technician Ray Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson) and his game warden, Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck).

Setting Analysis

The story is set at a Theme Park with tons of reseachers deveopling dinosaur eggs.  The setting of the story has various locations but they are all located amoung the park where the dinosaurs are being held.  The setting of the story plays a huge role in the movie.  It places everyone out of their comfort zones and makes them have to adapt to what is going on around them. It makes the characters grow and realize this was not a good idea attend the park.  The atmosphere helps the movie grow from just being about dinosaurs to somewhat scary and suspenseful.  The audience and the characters in the film do not know what is going to happen next, they are alone at the park with dangerous dinosaurs.

Character Analysis

In the flim Jurassic Park, John Hammond the owner of Jurassic Park changes throughout the flim.  At the beginning of the film Hammond was excited about the Park he created and wanted various people to experience it.  Hammond showed off his dinosaurs to impress Dr. Grant but he also showed off his laboratories to Dr. Malcolm who is a math wiz.  Hammond does a great job of convincing everyone that his park is safe and it is only for the good of society.  Soon enough his mind set changes due to various events.  First the security system shuts down leaving Hammonds grandchildren and guest out alone in the park.  Soon after the system shut down his guest are attacked by his many different creations of dinosaurs.  Hammond is very stressful and feels helpless that he cannot do a thing.  Once everyone dodged near death, they made it back to the home offices of the park.  Hammond's view changes instead of feeling somewhat responsible for putting everyone in danger, he feels that his park is still safe and they should not worry.  Hammond surprises me so much throughout the whole film because his emotions changed so much like one minute he is like this Park is amazing and then the next he doubles thinks his motives about the park.  Towards the end of the film the audience would think that Hammond would be done with the park but we soon learn that there is a seocond movie, where every one goes back to the park.  Hammond is a hard character to analysis but at the end of the day he is a greedy entreprener who wants it all.

Jurassicx Park Details

Before Crichton's book was even published, studios such as Warner Bros., Columbia TriStar, 20th Century Fox, and Universal had already begun bidding to acquire the picture rights. Spielberg, with the backing of Universal Studios, acquired the rights to the novel before its publication in 1990, and Crichton himself was hired by Universal Studios for an additional $500,000 to adapt the novel into a proper screenplay. David Koepp wrote the final draft, which left out much of the novel's exposition and violence, and made numerous changes to the characters.
